hi, could you help me with two dingbats both answers relating to christmas in some way:-

[1] santa claus is written in the form of a circle with the word Depart in the middle of this circle

[2] the word 'the' is written three times under each other on the right-hand side of the dingbat and then George 1

George V
George V1
are written on the left-hand side of the dingbat directly under each other

hi,brokenbank, i've managed to get within 4 of finishing which is about par for me, i'll keep on with them myself, but i am 'stuck' with no.29, if you could help please, i'm beginning to dream about it, best,hops.

For 29 we've got Christmas Dinner.

No L (Noel) in Fash (Flash) followed by Food (Dinner).

We've got answers for them all except for 39 if you need any more help.

hi,brokenbank,thanks for that, i'll try a bit longer with them first. re: no.29, i understand that the no L in flash can be seen as christmas but then there would have to be some significance with the word flash rather like in questions 22 and 46, otherwise he could just set any word with an L missing, i might be wrong here but i think it is more about the actual word fash which is scots brogue for trouble or bother, best, hops.

I see your point about the L (Noel). That's all we could come up with for 29

I don't think it's anything to do with being a scottish word as being a scot, I couldn't see a connection. Plus the puzzle originates in England and hasn't used quaint scottish words in previous years. The "team" are happy with christmas dinner, but we'll look at it again.

Still nothing for 39 and absolutely no ideas or clues, despite six of us working on it. We've plenty of time so will report back on here if there's a breakthrough.

The setter has cancelled No.20 as the clue is incorrect.

hi. brokenbank,yes i got his e-mail about no,20, shame really i thought 'christmas island' by the andrews sisters was still answerable despite the incorrect clue, i suppose he just wants to make certain the clues are correct. i'm with the person who wanted no.39 voided!

We've been going through them again and have amended our answer for no.40. Still looking at some of the others, but still no clue for 39!!

Shirley wasn't a member of the Andrews Sisters, it was Maxine, Patty and Laverne. I remember them well from long ago.
