Ruler Measurements

Has anyone have any idea when metric measurements first started to appear on British rulers ie centimetres/millimeteres. Thanks for any replies.

My school ruler had inches and centimetres on it in 1960!

So did mine, in 1957

By act of parliament in 1897 the metric system of measurement became legal for trade purposes in the UK. No doubt some enterprising person would have started to produce rulers showing metric, or imperial plus metric, very soon afterwards!
