Can anyone help?
Hi hoping someone can give me some guidance, i was parked in a bay on the side of the road, a man then got in to his vehicle and banged his door against my car, he immediately looked accross to see if anyone was in the vehicle, i got out the car and walked around to see if there was any damage, he was still seated in his car, and i could see a small scrap/dent where he had hit my car, i shouted at him that he had caused me some damage he opened his car door to get out and again banged the door against my car, i shouted at him again, i showed him the mark where he had hit me and he went to do it again, i stopped his door with my hand, and he then pushed his door almost closed and came to look at the damage, he was really condessending and said i havent done that little mark, he was smirking and been smug, i was so angry i kicked the side of his car, at this point he shouted to a man who was stood nearby, this man said he witnessed me kick the car but not the man hit my car with his car door, he said he was going to call the police, and took my number plate, as he walked pasted me he got really close to my face and said your car will cost nothing to repair but im going to take you for every penny youve got. He then started to call the police, i shouted back at him that i was going to the police and reversed out onto the main road, i immediately went to the police and gave my version of the incident, but now i am worried sick as to what might happen to me, please can anyone help. On the question of what will happen to you.
I am sure the police deal with "minor" road rage type problems every day of the week.
He damaged your car a little, you kicked his car (but maybe did little damage) and neither of you actually "hit" each other so I doubt the police will want to bother to follow this up with any arrrests or a court case.

I am not sure you handled this very well.
You have just admitted you shouted at him when he first hit your car. This is very confrontational. What was wrong with just telling him what he had done in a normal voice (he may not have realised).
Then you admitted you kicked his car.
What did you think that was going to solve?
It seems to me you need some courses of anger management and dealing with difficult situations.
Shouting at people, and then kicking out at their property, is hardly the best way to deal with situations like this.

It is probably not worht either of your claiming on your insurance as you may lose more with your no claims bonus than youi gain in any cost to repair the car.

yes i agree...you should not have gone in straightaway shouting at him...that is guaranteed to cause a row.
if you had been nice he may have just given you some cash towards some T-cut or something.
however, dont worry - he cannot 'take you for everything you have got' for this, nor can he put you in prison.
if the police get involved you will probably just get a fine.
check for cctv nearby too...

if he'd battered my car twice...i'm sure i'd have shouted at him too! what a rude, ridiculous oaf. people should read the first post properly before passing judgement. yes, you did kick his car, but he also dented yours. you've done your bit and gone to the police and i really wouldn't worry too much. they're not really stringing people up for stuff like this - try and get on with your regular routine until you hear otherwise - you've done the honest thing and 'fessed up and i doubt he would do anything if he had a brain. good luck and try not to take such matters to heart. there are bastards out there everywhere, unfortunately. elsie x
