Fifa have banned the England football team from having a poppy on their shirts when they play this coming weekend, claiming it is a political symbol. It is nothing of the sort and I hope the England team ignore the ban, perhaps Fifa are confusing it with the red rose, which is now a political symbol.

This is the third thread about this. FIFA's not confusing it with the rose at all, the rose is worn on the England rugby shirts after all. They're cutting it a bit fine to get embroidered poppies on their shirts now (they can hardly wear the pin version, they might stab each other).
^^ and PS the match will still have the usual two-minute silence, with servicemen present, so it's not being ignored altogether.

Just heard on the radio that David Beckham is angry with this ruling and some sort of protest is taking place now at FIFA HQ's.
Well, now they are wearing them - it's on the 10 o'clock news - the decision has been overturned, and they can wear their poppies.
...On their black armbands (as was suggested on AB) elsewhere.
Men are so stupid!
