I have looked on the Costco web site for info on membership but it doesn't give a lot of info.
Does anyone know whether individual membership is open to all or do you need to qualify somehow (Work in a certain employment sector, etc)

many thanks

Thanks Red.
Yeah I saw that bit on the website but I don't qualify for trade membership.
Hmmm I seem to recall for private membership you have to be a member of certain professions like law or accountancy or insurance - I think. Phone your nearest one and ask is my advice. Best is if you have a friend who is a member and they could put you on theirs, it costs about £14 that way.

Actually, I'm a member and I don't belong to any of those categories... I can't rememebr how I did it
jno, I got my first card from my employer at the time, many years ago. When I left that employment and thereby my Costco membership card, Costco told me I could become a private member without the usual checks due to my 'form' with them. Perhaps that's how you got your card?

I didn't take them up on the offer as I got a Trade card which is better.
Latest gossip in my local is about one of the regulars who was a Costco member. Last week he remarked at the checkout that Costco was a great way of saving on purchases, and that it was even more important now that he'd just retired. Costco cancelled his membership on the spot!!
why would they do that? there are lots of retired people (us included) who have costco membership. we'd let ours laps, then retired, and then rejoined, no problem at all, so they do know we're retired.

Hi Ethandron. I notice with interest the list of retiree occupations that are eligible for Costco membership. I must enquire further at my local!
note that the link ethandron give is to a list of qualifications for becoming an executive member rather than an ordinary one - it's not guaranteed that they're the same.
From memory the qualifying jobs are the same, the difference is that an ordinary individual membership is cheaper, something in the region of £25.
On that link when you scroll down, category 51 is Eduction. Is that meant to be Education? bit ironic if it is, lol.
