Does anyone know which estate cars have the longest boot space. Every time I check out a car on the internet it only gives the boot volume but I want to know the boot length. We have a Saab 95 estate at the moment and just wondered if their is anything out there with a longer boot (with the rear seats folded down of course). OH is a fisherman and when we go on holiday I always seem to have carp rods wedged between the two front seats. If he takes any more stuff with him I can see me taking the plane and him picking me up at the airport!

have a look at the mercedes benz e- class which has 695/1950 litres,or the volkswagen passat estate which has 603/1731 litres, if these are no good look in What Car? magazine in the rear.

hope this helps

For the money ... nothing will beat Peugeot 406 Estate .. (or the older 405 Estate) 526L. Only the Mondeo betters that at 540L.
Passats are good tho. More cash tho.

Many thanks to you all. Will have a look at the VW Passat and take my tape measure.
many of the fishermen i know have things stuck to their bonnet and just above the windscreen to transport the rod on the outside of the car
I have heard that the Saab 95 is quite mean for boot space. Cars for your requirements that immediately spring to mind consist of the obvious Volvos, but a former colleague of mine who was a keen fisherman replaced his ageing Passat with a Chevrolet Lacetti Estate. He only kept it a year, changing it not for lack of bootspace (it was ideal there) but it got through petrol like George Best got through Champaign.

Mondeo looks good. However if you lean forther towards the GM stable then the Astra estate is far more practical than the Insignia.
There is one of the Citroen Berlingo models that allows for the rods to be on the ceiling with the ends going into a shelf over the dashboard, gets them out of the way of driver and passenger and keeps them from damage.
