To the best of my knowledge, there's no way of attributing a date to any particular image.

There all taken at random times and dates some are over 5 years old, and some more recent, On the street view as you move down some high streets, there are shops that are there and as you move a bit nearer the shop has changed its buissness because the photo next to it is 5 years newer than the last image, there all mixed up. My car is on there on the satellite view that I had 6 years ago. a lot of it is out of date, both photo images and satellite ones.
Even out of date.... it is still a great free service.
As wildwood say's, a great service. Mind you, my Son has now discovered his car in three places due to the time lapses.

the microsoft version bing/maps/streetside is even older than google
sorry I mean "the birds eye" view on bing maps, the streetside is only available for london and a few places in america
I have found the street-view very helpful when looking for a particular shop instead of actually driving up and down in my car looking for it.
