..I have known for more than 20 years a man who is a member of a classic motor bike club.He regularly rides his '60s BSA bikes across Britain and even into Europe on club expeditions...many hundreds of miles at a time.A more spine jolting experience its hard to imagine......AND YET... he hasn't worked a day in all those years claiming a back injury...paid for by the tax payer. He uses the local pub and laughs at anyone who suggests hes a sponger....Is this right?????

Also a good point Annie. I do think if your job is stressing you out that much that you're on long term sick (and there's not some sort of harassment involved) then you probably need to give notice and find a job more suitable. I know where I work, you can get redeployed if you have something that physically stops you doing the job you're doing (that you obviously didn't have when you started)... I'm not sure how useful these options are though, I imagine it must be quite a change going from a clinical to a non-clinical role for example.
I think that is just life nowadays CD - work is stressful for everybody I know, but we just have to get on with it. We are in recession, budgets are tight, companies are working short staffed. 10 years ago I'd have said I was hard worked and it was true, but now we are expected to do at least twice what we were doing then for effectively less money as pay rises haven't kept pace with inflation and terms & conditions have been depleted. Everywhere is the same though so there is little point in moving on elsewhere.
No,bubble him. I am sure there is a number you can ring to report benefit fraud.
Also true annie...
i agree stress at work is quite common. im thinking more about mental health issues that can be life altering, there is no doubt people fiddle the system,, but some of us are actually genuine, and i can say i would much rather be in employment than having to claim bebefits for health issues, if i told you what the weekly benefit is i think many would be really surprised . again some people can use the system by lying and get enhanced payments. but not all of us do............... ( rant over ) ♥
when the announcement came that they were going to revue the benefits I have never seem so many people all of a sudden on arm crutches in our area, they have never used them before !
tut tut Dee Sa, you wouldn't be implying that some people are pulling a fast one would you? How very dare you! As if people would do that.

;-)
How do you know what he's claiming in benefits?
I do agree with you anne. I know that there are many genuine claimants with both physical and mental issues. I also think that many use stress as an excuse and there are some people for whom work would actually bring an improvement rather than a deteriation of their condition. My OH has worked in mental health care for many years so I do have a little insight. I think that if we could get those who are swinging the lead out of the benefit system then there would be an opportunity to improve the payments for genuine claimants or to provide suitable work opprtunities.
