Alternative Voting

Does anybody know if it is compulsary to tick/check more than one box/choice on the voting slip.

if you have a slip that says you can vote for 3 (for instance) then you can just put one or two votes without voiding the slip.

I thought the whole point was to put, in order of preference, where you would place each candidate ? So you'd need a top 4/5, at least....

I am a 1st past the post man but, if it shoulld come in, I don't know if the proposed AV system gives one the choice of just one vote.

if you only want to vote for one then you can just vote for one.
