I'm wanting to go to Bulgaria, but my husband is reluctant as he says they have dancing bears there. Is this correct, and if so, is it an organised event like bull-fighting in Spain, or are they randomly on street corners ??

They used to have dancing bears in Bulgaria but the practice is now illegal and has been stopped

My work sent me to Bulgaria, (Sofia) a few weeks ago. First time I have been there. It is interesting for a break. The taxis are extremely cheap. Even with a tip, no journey was over £4. The wines are also very drinkable and inexpensive. The centre of the town is like being on the set of the Prisoner, with (when I was there) loudspeakers playing music and people wandering about and sitting at outside cafes. Plenty of lovely churches, museums etc to explore and excellent weather. Oh and no bears!
Thank god they've stopped with the bears thing - barbaric what they did to them
