Audio through a Projector

I have a projector set up to my xbox. I used to use it connected to my PC for movies, and therefore the speakers attached to the pc via the audio jack would play the sound, and the projector would do pure visuals. Now the xbox doesnt have an optional audio out jack socket... ergo the sound from my connected xbox is being played through the tinny projector speaker. There's a socket on the back of the projector which says "Audio" but when i plug speakers/headphones in they dont have any output, it still plays through the built in speaker. The projector is a Hitachi Cp-X275 if that helps, thanks in advance :)

You say that the Xbox doesn't have an audio out, but if the sound is coming from the projector then it must be coming from the Audi- out of the x-box!
Instead of feeding that audio to the projector, you need to feed it to an amplifier and speakers or a set of powered speakers. The sockets marked "Audio" on the projector are for audio-in.
You could try an XBOX VGA cable. Media URL: http://kotaku.com/218218/1080p-fix-hits-360
