I want something that will pay well, although I know most will start out around the same amount.

My basic categories that I split my options into are: department stores, clothing stores, children’s stores, bookstores, body & beauty stores, houseware stores, and restaurants.

This is a list of the places I am looking at.

Department Stores: J.C. Penny, Dillard’s, Macy’s, & Nordstrom.
Clothing Stores: Charlotte Russe & White House/Black Market.
Bookstores: Barnes & Noble and Borders.
Body & Beauty Stores: Bath & Body Works and The Body Shop.
Children’s Stores: babyGAP, GAPkids, Gymboree, Justice, The Children’s Place, Build-a-Bear Workshop, & The Disney Store.
Home & Housewares: Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, & Williams-Sonoma.
Restaurant: The Cheesecake Factory.

Thank you ahead of time for your help :)

Personally if you are looking for a career rather than a job I would opt for a large retail chain, as they tend to offer good training prorgammes, and have more opportunities for advancement within their organisations.

Hi
I would suggest - www.cnx2jobs.co.uk. If not currently doing so, get an appointment with Connexions.....

Good luck with your job search :)
Why are you liniting your options to retail? As far as I know it doesn't pay that well! Are you in the UK or the US as some of the stores you mention seem to be in the US.
cheekychops, I would say she is from UK. Nothing in the way she speaks suggests otherwise (90% sure)
All these stores are US.
This is a US question - 100% sure
- Cheekychops - "why are you limiting yourself to retail?"
16 - no job exp ?
northernmonkey, I was reading it as though she ws 16 and looking to start a career somewhere, not looking for more casual type work whilst studying. If I am reading it wrongly then there is nothing wrong with retail work.
I think bookstore will be better, if you are interested.

problem is most employers are reluctant in 16 yr old school leavers as so much demand for jobs so many applicants means the choice of who is employed is / can be huge.

maybe that there is job for Primark and ie
205 people apply and 20 people are invited for a interview.........13 only turn up so then shortlist of 5 is decided, then finally 2 people and could be - 16 yr old with no previous job exp and a 25 year old with 9 years exp of retail and customer service based work ....... think its quite easy to see what the choice would be so basically its small shops you would be prob more keen for employing a young 16 yr old ?
