Which was the last purely instrumental piece to be no. 1 in the popular charts? I can't think of any since "Telstar" and "Frightened City".

Later than you think. 1999: Mr. Oizo - Flat Beat

Whatever happened to Flat Eric?
Judge is correct. I rememeber it being number one but can't remember any of the 'tune'.
I don't think Floral Dance was a number one - it reached number 2 only.
It was 'Eye Level'.

'Flat Beat' by Mr Oizo featured a woman's voice talking.

There was also that Crazy Frog thing in 2005 which didn't have any intelligible lyrics, but some kind of vocals.
Could it be a Jive Bunny or Crazy Frog release, or Doop by Doop?
