I am trying to recall the title of a book I remember reading as a boy. It was set in a public school and I think the main character's name was Teddy. There was definitely a boy in it nicknamed "The Bat", who was a useful spin bowler at cricket. The school First 15 (improbably) played rugby against The Barbarians. I think it was quite old even in the 1960's. Anyone know it?

Was it Teddy Lester's Schooldays by John Finnemore?

"The Gold Bat" by P G Wodehouse (1904) is set in a rugby playing public school ("Wrykyn"). However the Bat refers to an inter-house cricket trophy presented to the winning captain.
"The Gold Bat" features a boy named Trevor. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gold_Bat

Thanks for your answer, but it definitely wasn't that one.
I wonder if it might be something written by Ian Hay. I don’t recognise the story itself, but recognise the genre. I seem to remember in ‘Pip’ that the school cricket team were playing at Lords.
