Is 'piping hot' toast a myth? By the time I have applied butter and evenly spread the marmalade, at best, the toast is warm!

Not like the rubbish they listen to today.
The drummer was Roy Wood's brother Ken.
Ken Wood? Did he live in Hampstead?

As an aside, Roy Wood isn't Roy Wood at all. His real name is Ulysses Adrian Wood.
it always amused me that yuppies, having heard "toast", would buy tickets to streetband's concerts expecting an evening of quirky musical humour, and then being dismayed to be treated to their more usual hard blues output :-)

I clort the toast with "margarine" and put it back under the grill to melt it.

Then the toast is put on a plate to let it soften.

The Kenwood toaster is some kind of contraption for toasting bread.
Very popular with the lower orders, I believe, M'lud.
A toasting fork and an open fire is the answer.
Bread can’t be “piping hot” by definition.
Perhaps if you put it in a microwave.
