answer has 8 letters starting with L

What I ought to add is that 99 = IC in this quiz - but that is wrong
99 = XCIX

If you take IC out of your answer you are left with a player who plays an instrument like a harp!

Two answers which have been bugging me since day two of the quiz - it was much easier knowing the start letter each time - and which I still can't fathom out are:
47. A way to confront the Queen with a complaint (6) A.....
48. Race around at crawling, for instance! (8) N.......

Any help would be very gratefully received.

48. The crawling refers to swimming as in doing the crawl.

I have No. 7 starting with an A. This would mean that the letters of FINAL don't always follow each other. If they did this word should start with I. So is my word wrong?

First it spells out Final and then it goes into reverse, so next five answers are LANIF and then back to Final and so on so your A answer is correct

The sequence of letters throughout is starting with FINAL, next one is backwards so LANIF, next one FINAL and so on.
