Site Suggestion

i have a site suggestion it would be a reply feature so you can click reply to an answer that is in a thread and it automatically quotes the answer you reply to i do not mean that it will start a thread in the thread but just quote the answer maybe link to it or something

I just copy and paste the bit of the answer I'm replying to - and add the author's name. It seems to work well enough.

Good idea but it doesn't take a second to copy and paste the reply in to your own answer.
A few ABers object to posts replies with quoted replies in them, saying it clutters the thread up

The point being replied to might only be a sentence or a phrase from a great long screed but your suggestion would mean having to find that sentence or phrase or the entire screed showing again.

Some people always copy the whole of a post when only a little bit is relevant to their answer, Corby. A complete waste of time for the reader - not to mention confusing - which is why I only copy and paste the bit I'm responding to.

it coud be the start of the answer and then go into an ellipsis or maybe it would show the answer and you can delete the bits you dont want to keep it short and sweet i know a copy and paste isnt too hard and isnt too long but if it linked back to the original answer that would be cool and also on mobile it can take more than a second or two i use my mobile most often

NAOMI, yes there are some who do that but I don't see the point.

I post only the point being referred to or a bit more if context matters.

Duplicating the screed does not aid the debate.
