and the garage then puts right that which caused the MOT failure, do they then have to carry out another MOT inspection before issuing the MOT Certificate? If so, do you have to pay for two MOT checks?

I thought my garage said I did but son is saying I shouldn't have to so perhaps I got it wrong which I can do very easily nowadays. Is son correct?

Yes I know I can ask the garage but I thought I'd give it a go on here first.

Cheers and thank you.

They don't usually as I think they only need to re-test the item(s) it failed on. That's if the car is not removed from the garage between tests. e.g. My last MoT failed due to headlight aim. They issued a failed cert then adjusted the headlights & issued a pass cert. No extra charge.

When similar happened to me, I was only billed for one MOT.

No. Garage says can't issue an MOT because there are problems with the car. Garage fixes problems and issues an MOT certificate.
How can you pay for a second MOT when the vehicle didn't pass the first inspection?

My car is still at the garage. It has to be as it can't be driven on the road. All my brake pads have gone and I had no idea. They are so busy but will do their best to fix it tomorrow.
Paigntonian - I think you're wrong - if it fails they will (should) issue a fail cert whatever.
there's no such think as "can't issue" - if there was there would be no need for a fail cert!

Thank you everyone, I owe my son a drink then. Me getting muddled as usual.
Davebro: Car fails inspection. Faults corrected. MOT cert. granted.
Paigntonian, you are paying for the test, not the certificate. Pass or fail, you pay for the first test
nope - car fails/fail cert issued/faults corrected/pass cert issued.

END OF
davebro is right. Unless of course you pay for a pre-MOT inspection where no MOT cert is issued but you are told of any faults, but then you have to pay again for the MOT test.
It does seem a waste to issue a fail cert if you are going to fix it there and then but maybe it's required for statistical purposes. i.e. how many cars fail the MoT.

Davebro I have given you BA because you were the first to get it right.

I got a "Refusal of MOT test certificate". The car had to stay at the garage as it could not be driven on the road without an MOT. Garage bought the parts needed, did the repair, then issued the MOT. I paid one only £39.99 for the MOT, plus parts and labour for the repairs of course.
