I'm hoping someone here can help when the Skype Forum has (so far) failed. This was my question to them - https://tinyurl.com/a5z7485h

Can anyone think of a way around this?

I know it's daft, but Lynne & I were on Skype every day & to be able to keep & read our messages would mean a great deal to me.

Thank you for your time & attention :-)

I was wondering if you could download the messages in smaller chunks. I.E. multiple .tar files.

If all else fails then .json is pretty human readable (you can load it into a text editor such as Notepad++ so with a bit of work (i.e. knowing how to cleanly cut it) you could break the file into chunks yourself once you know what the max upload size is.

archibaldy - thank you *so* much for that link, it worked a treat. It doesn't render the messages the way the Skype Viewer would, but at least it picked them all up & I have a downloaded Notepad file of msgs going back to 2017 :-)
Great result everyone.
Glad you got it sorted. Piece of trivia: if anybody remembers old sci-fi programmes such as Space 1999 and UFO, they used to feature computers with reel-to-reel tapes on them which is where tar gets its name. Tape ARchive.
Glad you've got it sorted, LIK :)
Glad it helped LIK..!
