I usually give things away, but this time someone said ‘Flog it on eBay, then give the money away.’

Here’s the reckoning.
Original cost £62.00
Sale price £30.00
Paypal fee -£1.17
Ebay fee - £3.00
Hermes - £6.00

Next time I’ll put it on Freebooters -less hassle!

A lot better than Amazon’s fees. I had a book listed with them that sold this morning. I just realised that after Amazon’s fees and the postage I would have been left with literally 3p out of the buyer’s payment of £4.80. I cancelled the sale and all my other listed books.

Lummy, cloverjo, that is fierce. I knew they were all at it (maximising profits!) but that takes the biscuit.

On a similar point, it always amuses me on Dragon's Den when they all pooh-pooh some worthwhile invention that would help humanity until they find it could make millions, when they all change their minds and suddenly see the benefits of getting involved...
allen, PayPal has to pay to process the payment if the buyer used a card. Also PayPal protection costs them. I wouldn't expect them to handle payments for free.
And if you think freebooters is less hassle - think again. People not turning up when they say they will, other people asking daft questions about the item.

Hello Hans.

a) Commerce is all about Greed.
One of the most perspicacious observations ever made on this website; I'm surprised the Mods have let it stand.
(And also explains why I'm not very good at Commerce).

b) How is the sore?
Improving. (Nothing is quick when you get old!) Very good of you to ask.

Allen.
You obviously need to take more time at looking into things that you think of doing before doing them, opposed to then after accusing people of profiteering.
barry1010.......You're joking of course. Sell at Amazon for..

£25 (excl.VAT) per month + additional fees*

Hans.
Amazon deduct a varying percentage of the total selling price, according to the item's category, as a "referral fee".

The highest rate is 45.9% for Amazon device accessories.
Hans, you don't have to sign up for that if you are an occasional seller. If you scroll down and use the tool for 'marketplace' and not 'pro' it works. You don't have to subscribe to a monthly plan.
Barry......I see what you mean......£0.75 (per item sold) + additional fees*

75p seems reasonable but what about ...the+additional fees.

Hans
This is from an email I got from Amazon recently.

Dear Seller,
We wanted to update you on some changes the Government has introduced in the UK.
This spring, the Government brought in a 2% Digital Services Tax (“DST”) in the UK which will impact fee rates on Amazon UK. While the legislation was being passed, we continued our discussions with Government to encourage them to take an approach that would not impact our Selling Partners and absorbed the increase.

Now that the legislation has passed, we wanted to let you know we will be increasing Referral fees, Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) fees, monthly FBA Storage fees and Multichannel Fulfilment (MCF) fees by 2% for items sold in the UK to reflect this additional cost. We will not apply the increased charges retroactively, but starting 1 September, 2020, the above fee types will increase.

For example, on an item for which the referral fee on Amazon.co.uk is currently 15.0%, you will pay a fee of 15.3%, and for a parcel with a current UK rate of £2.27 (standard parcel ≤0.5kg), you will pay a fee of £2.32 starting 1 September, 2020.

For more information about these upcoming changes, including fee definitions, examples and FAQs, refer to our Help page: https://sellercentraleurope.amazon.com/gp/help/G366DPWD5P5QFDJP.
