Without shouting down, disagreeing or argument. Give your opinion, prediction or thoughts of what may happen in the next 2/3 months regarding the present situation. This is not to be a post of who is right or wrong, just everyone's view of what might happen.
I would predict that they will in the next month, open schools on a part time basis, if only to ease pressure at home and give parents a break, may be 2/3 days a week.

Stay as is until the curve shows a significant downward trend, then as said by others a lifting of some restrictions to both keep the economy alive and to make sure manageable numbers of younger fitter people become ill. I would see garden centres, and nurseries reopening fairly early with restricted access. Also senior schools with split classes say half...

>A large factor is whether all those people (inc moi) who are furloughed get paid around the end of this month. I predict civil unrest if not.

I've had my first 2 furlough payments (paid weekly) from one employer so the systems are partly in place - so it depends on whether the employers can do it, but whether HMRC will reimburse employers on time remains to be seen
I’m not sure whether employers have to prove whether employees have been paid before they receive the Govt ‘handout’. One would hope they do, but I can see some employers not paying out until they’re 100% sure the govt have paid them.
I dont think they have to wait for a payment receipt, as far as I understand, it comes as a credit rather than a debit when they process the payroll through the HMRC realtime portal. Instead of inputting our earnings and the business paying our taxes, the software will credit back the 80% and the transaction will be a bank transfer in rather than out.
I looked at the gov.uk furlough page and it said their online application for employers was ‘hoped to be up’ by the end of April.
Unless there’s another way of applying (going to the office, which is likely to be shut) I can’t see how anyone is going to get any money soon.
I think fiction-factory has been very lucky.
Many employers will run the payroll this month and claim the money back in due course.
I’m pretty sure some won’t.
