How does the 'across the pond' part work, please Mac?
If someone was across the pond in America and on the phone you said pass or parse it would sound the same.
But it sounds the same in British English too. Unless the setter is from the north of England, I guess ...
That is what I mean,if you are in Britain and you pass to someone in America it would sound the same as parse.
My pass and parse sound very different. Short vowel and long vowel. :-)

^^^ Sorry - wrong way round. P+*** here is P+ass in US.
Nothing to do with pronunciation, substitute the US slang for the part of the body that is UK slang after P and you would have the word "pass".
