A bit mind boggling but very interesting. Just wanted to know how widely accepted this idea is among physicists? Or is it a fringe science kind of thing?

I think it would be a bit soon to call the idea "accepted", but it's certainly not pseudoscience. As a rule of thumb, a scientific idea should only be accepted if it's been properly tested, and I really don't think that this has been tested properly yet. There are (at least) two very different "parallel universe" ideas, though, and it's important not to confuse...
