Cruel and heartless are the words that come to mind, and a "jobsworth" for
the person that said " At this point the decision has been made and it is out of my hands."

Dementia? Sorry- I thought he needed nursing care. I take it all back!
At least they are at their daughter's house for Christmas and if mixed units are expensive who the *** really cares? Do we want to live in a world where ethics are abandoned in favour of saving money and where cruelty is masked by commerce? I don't, I'd pay extra tax so things like this don't happen, UI think most people would, these are human beings :(
The links are giving different information... I know, kval- but homes are going bankrupt everywhere now. I can't see that happening without a massive policy change, and nobody is listening yet.
it is very sad, let us hope someone comes up with a solution for the lovely couple.
Pixie at 18:50, as I understand it this is in Canada. Do we know how their homes are funded and if so, do they need policy change?
No, I don't know how they fund it in Canada, Naomi. From mikey's link it looks like it works the same as ours, however that turned out not to be accurate anyway.

This has gone viral all over Canada, and I predict that some kind of last-minute reprieve will be forthcoming.
It has Mikey, look at 237's link ^^. They will be with a relative.
The couple will be together for Christmas at their daughter’s home in Fredericton.

Good news !
There is a res care near me that has a rest home end and a nursing end. There are two lounges but both are used by both kinds of resident. I don't say it happens every time but residents are often just moved from end to end when their needs change. Social services do part fund places there but it does require a top up.
