After a recent update by W 10, right at the end of the Start procedure. a msg appeared saying that W Security was turned off and did I want it turned on. Y/N.
As Norton is installed and working I clicked No.
Does this have anything to do with Google results no longer carrying the green Norton checked banner?

Oh you mean some kind of website approval mark, not advertising banners. Can only suggest you look at the Norton settings. Check website protection is on.

Unlikely. I assume W Security is an AV ? Check that Norton's running.
It's possible W10 missed it as an AV.

If it's running it seems ok to me.

I find there is an o/s problem, conflict between Firefox and Norton.
Why are you saying that you have found a conflict between Firefox and Norton. ?

Firefox is a Browser and Norton is an Anti Virus Programme.

Hans.
The conflict is between Norton and W Defender. If you are prepared to run Norton, Defender has to be off. Got rid of Norton 4 years ago. Best thing I ever did. Slows down the whole system and plagues you to death with pop ups and spurious warnings. Defender is perfectly adequate for ordinary, sensible web usage. If you get hacked through tenuous links to Norton, you will no doubt blame Windows.

Msg from Norton Community.

Which browser are you using? There have been some issues with the latest update and the FireFox browser Norton Toolbar extension.

See this thread. https://community.norton.com/en/forums/firefox-5401-has-disabled-norton-...
Guess what Coppit, the page has been taken down.

After contacting Norton, I was told FF would be fixing the problem. It was done yesterday.
