Would like ideas on how to improve the looks of the front of the garage, especially the area above the garage doors. Please see photos here

As you can probably tell from the photos the garage roof is a normal roof (not a flat roof) and is joined to a bungalow (also a normal roof).

Many thanks in advance

Mmmm...... I see what you mean Mr Mitchell ;o) The main problem, aesthetically, is the "flatness" of the elevation. It's simply 2-dimensional. There's nothing sticking out to give a "shadow line". If the doors were set back 100mm to give a 100mm reveal on each side, that would look a lot better. Best of all would be to extend the roof to give an overhang. That...

How about painting the brickwork a light colour, probably white? Not sure where you would stop the painting though, possibly just paint the front.

Best of all would be to extend the roof to give an overhang. That would also lower the fascia/gutter line to reduce the height to better proportions. At the same time, it would get rid of that silly pier in the middle, just above the light. I can't think why that was put there :o)

Changing the doors is a must too. The proportions of the panels is very 1930s. Fine in the right place, but archaic here I think.
Painting or staining them something darker would help them to blend in with the brickwork too.

Just a few ideas to be going on with :o)
The look on right-hand side doesn't look too bad with that vegetation hiding the brick and softening that edge. (Can't make it out. Is it ivy?) I'd suggest simply making the left side the same. Agree with TB about removing those bricks at top middle.
Agreeing with TB, (who wouldn't) I'd also suggest that after removing the 'pier' (just above the light) you might investigate adding a guttering system in a color that might give some additional deffinition to the rather blank top line of the structure. Perhaps the same color as the structure of the house to the right (in the picture) which I presume is the adjoining home of which the garage is a part.

This would require getting rid of the overhead light that needs changing regardless of whateve else you decide on...
You could make it look more appealing at comparatively little cost by getting a better light fitting and moving it onto the pediment - at least it would give it a function - then you'd have room for a narrow trellis above the door to support a climber, something like a showy clematis, which will soften the roofline. I'd also be inclined to paint the door hinges white to fade them in. A Clematis is always a good choice as you can find one to fit any orientation and they are happy in deep pots. In a very short time the overall effect will look charming.

To all who answered this, a massive thankyou for your time and suggestions, mum has taken some ideas on board and is now getting prices! Thanks again abers! xx
Well, there is a big space above the garage door of my house when it opens up. One day a cat stuck in the garage door and I was about to go then my son see that child and tell me that "Hy Mom! There is something above the garage door" I quickly ran and save that poor cat. I also hear about the same story of a cat and a policeman saved his life. After this incident, i made my mind to change the garage door and set up a new door. For this, i had to search hard and finally, i contact to the nearest garage door company. Now I do not have any problem with garage door. Also, the area above the garage door attracts the burglars so you had to take step quickly and must have to change your garage door. I can tell you about that team who changes my garage door hope that you may get benefit from them. You can contact them at http://www.garagedoorsinbristol.com/
