Wonderful! Just wonderful! I don't know what I was expecting, just knew there would be quality there, but this was life and people in an epoch which included and produced us and the UK as it is I would campaign (and may do so if I can get support) to have this shown to 13 yr. olds in schools - it covers so much and says more than any white paper about what it is to be human,...

I bet it did, yes.

Ah Nell, So glad you enjoyed it. I remember my grandparents stlll having the bomb shelter on my Grandad's allotment(about 50 yards from their house because there was no room in the back of a terraced house). Grandad would not dismantle it until about 8 years after the war. Just in case. He used it as a winter store for onions and spuds and the like. I can still smell it if I close my eyes and concentrate.
Funny Togo that we can smell smells from so long ago. My grandparents were greengrocers and if I go into a greengrocers now (a proper one) I am taken back in time. I can also smell the beetroots boiling in a copper in the back yard of the shop, which was also their home.
Thanks for BA, Togo. Mr J2 was equally enthralled, especially by such detail as the dado rail division on the stair wall - and the then ubiquitous anaglypta below it. He was also an evacuee and it brought the whole experience back - except that he was sent to Swansea, where he had a great time watching the bombs raining down on the docks and refineries!
I loved the film but I won't watch it again. I thought it magical and a repeat viewing might ruin the magic for me.

I could never watch Schindler's List a second time - the impact would not be so great; nor The Exorcist which I watched as a teen in case it comes across as hammy.

As well as remembered smells I have remembered touch. I can be concentrating on a book, tv, whatever and I will suddenly feel my long dead dog's foot pads on my hands or her scrabbling on to my lap; or get the sensation of a horse's velvety muzzle with that hot grassy smell of the breath. Very weird
I thought it was great too.I also enjoyed call the Midwife .As for a lot of the rest, well.
I enjoyed Call the Midwife, too, but it is keeping me awake at night. I can't get the Pata Pata song they played on it out of my head

Must admit we also enjoyed the Ag Christie "Witness for the Prosecution". A bit dark in parts but once again the beeb got the costumes and décor spot on. Why they don't stick to that instead of wanting to be a political party is beyond me.
I loved it, brought back memories of a London I used to go to as a child to stay with grandparents and aunts, I remember how enthralled I was by the fact that the buses were red.
I taped it, will watch it soon
Hi Togo, I loved it, how fantastic animation can be! A lovely snapshot of another era. I did think the images of the deaths could have been left to the imagination though. I recommended this to a couple of people and I wish I'd seen it first.
