There must be an easy explanation to solve this problem!!
Have recently moved broadband, telephone and line from Virgin to Sky,already having tv package for many years. BT engineer came out to reactivate the 30 year old BT line and the telephone rang when tested. My son set up the broadband successfully and fitted the filters as advised.
Problem
..............When the microfilter is NOT fitted the line can dial out but has loud hissing with dial tone but the telephone WILL RING for an incoming call.
..............When the microfilter IS fitted, the line is perfectly clear but the phone WILL NOT ring for incoming calls. Voicemail messages are left normally and broadband has no problem.
Have read the Sky troubleshooting guides etcand am waiting for a new filter from Sky in case this is faulty. Most inconvenient and annoying. Any ideas??

I am unsure of your exact situation but when I installed my sky broadband and phone I had hissing on my phone line so I could not hear anyone so annoying. This was with both filters and no filters.

I have a 'master' line box in the house (which is in theory the first box in the system where the phone cable comes in from outside) then as the house is a new build a wire from that box then takes it all round the house the allowing a phone socket in every room.

It turned out I had the broadband plugged into the master line box to get the best/fastest connection

But the put my main cordless phone (with the answer phone, this is the only phone in the set of three that connects to a phone line, the others just require power) This was in a useful place where I could check messages this was not plugged into the master line box and was in a distant room.

Therefore you have to plug the main phone in the same micro filter as the broadband is and share that line, at least that's what works for me, no cracking now.

Hope this helps
if that doesn't make sense I can re write it?

Thank you 'what...the?'
Thank you for trying to decipher my problem with limited info.! Judging by the Sky forum, there are many people with similar faults where they can't even get a dial tone for outgoing or incoming calls!! I should have left well alone and stayed with Virgin Media! I'm putting all my faith in the hope it is a faulty microfilter..........which still has to be received from Sky!! Up cheers!!
hope you get it fixed. As said if you have the phone in a different socket than the broadband some where else in the house that might be the problem try and use the same micro filter for the phone and router, they do supply two micro filters which encourages you to plug them in separate places in the house.

SUCCESS!! SUCCESSS!! SUCCESS!!!!
There is hope to all of you out there with Sky broadband/phone and line rental problems!!
Have just had a visit from a friend of mine who brought a spare MICROFILTER to try in the phone socket. Yes yes yes IT WORKED and the phone now rings when the filter is in AND there is no interference!!! Shortly afterwards the post came with the new filter from Sky and that works as well!!!!!
After all the annoyance and inconvenience I have had for the past week my problem is solved!! The moral to the story ?.......It doesn't always do what it says on the box!!!!
Hope you are reading this 'what ...the?' Up Cheers!!!
I have read all the replies including previous ones . I have SKY tv but have there filter on my phone connection.plus interference filter. I don't have phone and broadband with sky. I had to call BT for interference on my phone last week and it took them ages to find the fault. I don't think they have completely found the fault as phone still has interference like what is described in replies. I dare not call them again as I may be charged £99 if fault is due to sky filter. Will Sky just send me a filter if I ask and is it free of charge.
Have you gone with the process of proper fitting of micro filter. You have to follow below mentioned steps for its proper set up:-

- First, you need to plug the micro filter into the master socket. The master socket will be located where your telephone line enters into your home.

- Now you have to insert the telephone cable into the microfilter port that is marked either Sky Box or phone.

- Insert the cables of your Sky Broadband router or hub into the microfilter that is marked as Sky Hub.

- If there are multiple sockets at your home, then you have to plug the other microfilter into each socket.

-If you are connecting more than one device to the phone socket through spitter, then you have to plug the other device into the microfilter that is marked as Sky box or phone.

Inspite of following the above steps if you are not able to set up a microfilter, you can call Sky Customer service on the number mentioned here http://qwikfix.co.uk/setup-sky-microfilter/.
Have you noticed the date of this question is 2011. I wondered what was going on when I seen this in my subscribed posts
