I am travelling in the US shortly and want to use my laptop and camera there. I need some gizmo to convert US electricity supply to GB standard. Ideally I want something that plus into a US wall socket but takes my GB mains plug for the laptop power cord and the camera-battery charger. What do I need and where do I get one, please?!?

Sorry, that should "plugs" not "plus" into a U.S. wall socket.
Just get a plug adaptor Argos do them for about £6
Question Author
Does that change the power?
Well it enabled me to charge my camera, iPhone and iPad whilst I was there just two days ago.

Thanks. I know nothing about these things. But will look into it on the Argos site as you suggest. ((£6 seems good when I have just been reading about "step up" convertors (Amazon) that cost more and burn out when used to supply more than tiny accessories)).

Thanks for your interest. Both the items have 110-240 on them so, yes, it seems I was over-complicating things (and not for the first time!)

Cheers.
You can also buy them in Boots, Sainsburys, Matalan, Debenhams, and at the airport.
If you have a number of gadgets to charge try taking a 3 gang extension wire as that enables you to charge using your english plugs. Camera, phone, laptop, hairdryer, kettle etc.
