Tonight's Masterchief featured a Surf and Turf dish, [lobster and meat]at 5 star restaurant in Covent garden, would you pay this for a lunch dish! Even if I could afford it would have to think twice! Think how much food you could buy for £74

I suppose you could go with liver and shrimps and spend what you saved on the Congestion Charge but it's hardly the same is it...

Ridiculous for a lunch prices even if it was 5 star,on the plate looked average...
Didn't see it Oscar, How much was it then?

jem
I thought it was strange to see a lobster and a steak served on the same plate!
It was £74 jem - more than I would pay!
It looked average?

How often do you eat lobster that size....with fillet beef for lunch?

It looked yummy....but I wouldn't have been able to eat that amount of steak.
It was a 'sharing dish' meant for two people. The restaurant specialises in them.
I thought it looked a bit big...as did the lamb.

So £74 isn't that bad then. It needed more of the stir fry then. One half a mushroom and a leaf of pak choi looked a bit mean...sharing that is.
That was probably meant to be just a 'garnish' ummmm.
It's a pity some of the 'posh' restaurants forget that we like veg...
Ha ha! That reminds me of when we took our Canadian visitors to a very posh London restaurant. She sat there with the food in front of her waiting for the rest it it, including her chips, to arrive! :o)
I really like my food, I'm not sure I would pay that much for it though. I like a plate of food that is going to leave me busting at the seams. On occasions I have left a restaurant just to go to a kebab house and get something to satisfy my appetite. I may be a philistine but hey....... a mans gotta eat.

I like a meal to be presented well but that certainly is not the most important part for me, if its on my plate I want to enjoy eating it, not looking at it.
We have a lovely restaurant near me. Not posh but trying to appear posh. They plate up like a posh restaurant and put your veg in bowls so not to ruin the look.

Lovely food though.

I went to dinner with an American. She couldn't understand why we had to wait for the meal and did nothing but moan. No matter how many times we told her it was cooked to order...
You do eat with your eyes though Ratter.

I'm opposite to you. I cannot bare the feeling of being too full. Once I start to feel full every mouthful becomes a chore. I also eat painfully slow...lucky OH does as well.
Yes Ummmm I agree that you eat with your eyes to a point, the most important part is the taste and being satisfied after a meal.

Drawing fancy patterns with a sauce is totally wasted on me, just pour it all over and have done with it, it looks just as good to me!
I don't like being over-full either ummmm - and I hate to see a plate piled high with food. It puts me off eating it at all. Having said that, the fashion for 'neuvelle cuisine' really is an absolute rip off.
Ratter, you do make me laugh. Typical man! Haaa! :o)
Masterchief? lol
shouldn't that be masterCHEF?
Women have always said they love to cook for me as I enjoy my food so much.

Some people eat to live, I live to eat!

Give me meat of any description and see me smile, especially a really good rump or rib eye :-)

and what ever happened to the 16 oz steak, you rarely see them in a restaurant these days?
surf and turf used to be a popular Berni dish in the 70's....yummy.....
