Help With Spelling Checker Please

For some reason that I can't understand my check spelling function has stopped working, I'm using Word 2003. I have gone into 'tools/options/spelling & Grammar' and the check spelling as you type box is definitely ticked. I have shut down the computer and restarted it but the problem remains, any help would be much appreciated. Funnily enough, it's working whilst typing here!
