My elderly mother needs a phone purely as a 'safety net' for when she is out shopping etc, so she knows she can phone home if she feels unwell. I have an unlocked phone for her, but now I cant seem to find a simple PAYG Sim that will allow her to JUST pay for the calls she uses, no 'extras' , no internet, and no monthly minimum spend, as she might not use it for months on end! Does such a thing exist?!

Tesco. They triple your credit and there's no time limit to use it.

Don't know of one but Giffgaff are very good. Have used them for about 4 years now. You can buy a very low cost Goody Bag depending on your needs.
Tesco. They triple your credit and there's no time limit to use it.
Most service providers will do a sim only tariff on a part monthly basis. Just shop around.. For example Virgin do a sim for £15 a month for unlimited calls/texts and internet.. I know you just want the calms but it's still cheap.

The trouble is Purple, £15 a month isn't cheap if you don't use the thing at all, its just money down the drain!
Ummmm, i'm going to Tesco's later, I will check that out, thanks!
Why PP when they can get a sim with no monthly charges?
I'm about to top my mobile up again in tescos. Great value with the added credits they give you. Mine lasts for ages.
No monthly bill for me!
My little sister has a Tesco PAYG for when she's in the UK a they don't time limit your credit and it's dead simple.
My phone is a Nokia ( cost about £20 four years ago.) I pay as you go when and as I need it ,which is about £10 every two or three months. There are more options on the phone but as I never use them I don't pay for them.My husband has a Samsung (cost £5) and likewise uses Orange pay as you go . As long as you can make a call or receive one that's all we want.
Yeah...can't fault Tesco. I'm with vodaphone at the moment and as soon as get the phone unlocked I'll be going with Tesco.
I use three, i only top up now and again. Your credit never expires. You put £10 on you get £10 worth of calls, ok the payg tariff i'm on also gives you 150mb of internet and 200 text free (I never use the internet, but the free text are handy). It also gives you 3000 free minutes to call people on the three network (3000 minutes over 45 days), which is great for me as most of my friends are on Three. Like i said the free stuff is exactly that, FREE, you don't have to use it, Put £10 on and its there untill its used, no fees or expire date.
I have a Pay as you Go Samsung phone using O2 simcard. I just top up when I want to usually around £10 every couple of months if that. I don't use it for long calls just to text or to say 'I am on my way home'. I don't use it for internet and there is no minimum spend. Got my phone from O2 shop but I think they have sold out to Sky now. Worth asking at the phone shop though.

I spotted the £ deal, looked exactly what I wanted, until I noticed that you must have a 3G phone to use it, Mums isn't.
I have got her a Tesco PAYG SIM, and an ecard for top-ups, (easy, as she shops in there anyway!)
Thanks for the answers people!
And you get points for topping up :-)
