I am using Windows 7 on a Sony Vaio. Just recently when using Firefox I find that it opens a new window each time I click on it.
I've tried to find how to change this back to how it previously was but without success.
Anyone experienced this?

Maybe you've not got any! Most Firefox users have things like Adblock Plus (which blocks ads and makes AB's pages load vastly faster). The following solves nearly all Firefox problems (and I'd expect it to work for you):

Make a note of any extensions you're using (from Tools > Add-ons). Go to Help> Troubleshooting Information. Click 'Reset Firefox'. Reinstall your extensions.

Thanks Buenchico, but what extensions are you referring to?

Go to Tools > Add-ons, and click on 'Extensions'. If nothing is shown there, or anything there is shown as 'disabled' you can forget about my reference to extensions. (You can also disregard anything related to Java, such as Java Control Panel, which might appear there).

Resetting Firefox takes it back to the way it was when you installed it (while preserving all of your bookmarks and preferences).

Thanks, I've been trying that out and will continue to see if it has improved my browsing experience.
Is it that you no longer see a Home Page when you startup Firefox? If so it might be worth checking your FireFox Options settings.

- Select 'Tools>Options>General>' (Alt+t key combination is also shortcut for Tools)
- Click on 'When FireFox Starts' and set 'Show my Home Page'
