Not remotely technical so would appreciate answer to this.
Currently have a DVD player and also watch DVD's on my lap top. I have lots of DVD's-many irreplaceable-if I changed to a Blue Ray player will I still be able to play them? Have spent a small fortune on opera DVD's which I could not afford to replace.

Yes - blu-ray players will play DVDs - good players will 'up-scale' the DVD picture to somewhere about halfway between DVD and blu-ray quality.

We can play DVDs on our Blu Ray player (which was a waste of money - we have maybe 2 Blu Ray discs and loads of DVDs).

Thanks for that-I know what you mean-there are very few new films I would want to buy anyway but its good to know that if I did I'd still be able to watch what I have
simple answer, yes (and I don't consider mine to be a waste of money - I have 1937 DVDs and 84 Blu-Rays)
i have the basic love film membership two blu-ray a month of the latest movies or whatever
would never order a standard dvd after blu-ray but it depends on what system you have to get the best out of blu-ray
