I have two PCs ,networked , one using XP and the other Vista .
On Vista if I click on View the menu shows Zoom which allows considerable variation in size of the window contents both text and graphics however on the XP there is no Zoom only a choice of text size. I have it set on 'smallest but it is still much to big especially on a 15 inch screen . Can I do anything about it ?

Hi, I use Win XP with I.E. and there is a zoom feature.
It's on the Status bar, bottom right of the screen and zooms from 40% to 400%.

Are you actually trying to resize the window, or just the text?

To resize text in your web browser, press Ctrl and + (bigger) or Ctrl and - (smaller) together. Pressing Ctrl and 0 takes you to the default size.

To resize text in general, change your screen resolution. (Right-click on your Desktop and select 'Properties'. Click the 'Settings' tab and move the slider. Increasing the resolution makes text smaller and vice versa. Click 'Apply' and 'OK').

To adjust the size of a window, click-and-drags its edges.

That's one of the big improvements from XP to vista (and 7).... The ability to change the view size of everything.

Generally it can't be done in XP.
If smallest is still too big, I think you must have one of the windows font settings set to too large a size. Open up Display proerties (eith from control panel or by right-clicking on the desktop), then go to the Appearance tab. Go through the various settings there, some of them have font sizes set. Maybe one of them is unusually large?
Changing the resolution is a terrible way to adjust the size (unless you have a crt monitor). It will result in a fuzzy and/or blocky display.

The resolution should be set to match that of your monitor.

If you want to change the size, go to settings, click the advanced button and, on the general tab, change the DPI setting.

cont.
1. The text size does can not be changed . It doesn' matter which font size I choose they remain large as do all the graphics.
2. The icons on the desktop are however OK ie Fairly small.
3. The controls on the monitor itself don't have any effect . I would like to lower the brightness but I can lower the number on the screen right down to zero and there is no effect . The same thing applies to the contrast , no effect.
There is one other thing which is probably not relevant to the size problem which affects all web sites, but on Answer Bank I can not answer any post because the SUBMIT button does not appear. I am answering this on my main PC which is using Vista.

Waz There is no Zoom facility on my tool bar.

PS . To give you some idea of the size problem when I go to AB there is only room for two posts to appear on the screen .
I can adjust the sides of the window but as you know that doesn't affect the size of the text and graphics .
