I am looking to purchase one of the above recorders but would like some help as to which one. I have looked at the reviews against some and the say that they are OK to start with but then go wrong with the recording. I am looking for one that records one programme whilst watching another/Series record/pause live TV. Must have HDMI output/upscaling o 1080i. I think thats it? I am willing to pay upto £300.
Can anyone please make any recommendations. Thank-you.

Thanks AlBags for your advice- I will now look for a Humax model.
I know what hardware and software are, but what is firmware?
It's fixed software installed on a device, normally the software that would run the device itself. (the boundary between software and firmware is a little blurry).... so for example, my phone runs android which would be the firmware on the phone.
Thank you for that.
Wih European designs (and a few 'far east') the firmware can be made updateable (as in a Freeview receiver to run the EPG or add new features/channels .. the same applies with Sky)
Coupled with good forums and manufacturers support, these are the best type of machine & design to keep up with development of new electronic features and services.
