Have just purchased a Kindle e book reader, can anyone recomend sites to download e books from other than Amazon, are they any sites that let you download books for free?

Try KOBO....which works on iPad 2 - not sure about Kindle...

As I understand it, with hthe amazon ebook reader you are largely looked in to Amazon.
You can use your Kindle like an external hard drive/USB drive and drag pdf files onto it to view. Unfortunately I don't know of any legal sites you can download books from.
My local library allows me to borrow books on to my Kindle

Firstly download Calibre to your desktop - it does work with Kindle.

See if your library lends ebooks. If yours doesn't, a neighbouring county might and you can register with them. My library allows three loans at a time.

The only legal free books available for download are out of copyright, so are old, or unpublished where the author is happy to share.

There are many only bookshops selling ebooks, and the prices vary.
The free books that I have read are frequently VERY poor. Be warned!
