I have just bought a logitech m505 wireless mouse. Before I unwrap it wonder if it is just for laptops or can it be used on a desktop pc as well

Yes, the only difference with mice intended for laptops is that they are usually smaller and sometimes include a method of storing the USB transmitter - purely to make them more portable.
