Is it possible to change a worksheet/book that was created under a earlier version of Xcel (.xls) to my present Office Home 2010 (.XLXS)type.

yes, just use "save as" rather than "save". Save it as file type "Excel Workbook".

Yes you should be able to open it in 2010, see it convert and then 'save as' an Excel 2010 file.
unless the old file has Macros in it in which case save as "Excel Macro-enabled workbook"
