Avast Blocking My External Hard Drive

My Avast demanded to be updated yesterday, so I did. Now when I plug my external hard drive in (a little Maxell portable) nothing comes up and I can't back things up. I assume these two events are connected as there was no trouble till today.

Is there any way to tell Avast to permit it? Or of restoring the earlier Avast? (Though I assume the latter would be risky.)

(Please don't advise installing MSE instead as I had the same trouble with it in the past; that's why I installed Avast in the first place.)

I use up-to-date Avast on W8.1 and don't have this problem. If you right-click the Avast icon in the task tray you'll find the 'Avast Shield Controls' where you can disable it for a period - see if the drive is recognised when Avast is disabled. I suspect it won't make a difference.

We only won twelve quid on the lottery this month which won't get me far.I'll have to run behind the coach:)
Nice to see you Robinia .I bet you're pleased all your decor is sorted.
We need some home improvements doing but the upheaval of it all puts me off.Never mind ,I won't be able to see the cobwebs now the nights are darker earlier:)
Bright and breezy here but that east wind is very chilly.
Bump.
Just walked round Ibiza port in the cool and there is an amazing sailing cruise ship there Sea Cloud. First built in 1931. There were crew clambering up the enormous masts. I was enthralled but terrified one would fall as they just walk along the ropes. We stood and watched for ages.
I hate watching anyone just going up a ladder.

Intit cold 'n dark?
Fenjal's on offer shaney, I've ordered almost one of everything, paid with my points. Not sure why though, I won't be washing 'til we change the clocks again :)

Btw, Tarquin tweaked my laptop last week and over 400 emails rolled in. I'm not sure where they'd been, I blame Brexit. Anyway, if I owe anyone a reply from the days when we had to use pedal power for our putas please bear with....
I love the early dark nights, all cosy, really happy.
Ooh thanks Robinia .I'll have a browse .I'm on my last tube of shower creme from the last lot I bought.
Just watched Tim and Prue boating on the Norfolk Broads.I've been to all those places that they went to so it was interesting. They even came down to Gt Yarmouth across the Breydon Water which has notorious tides.Very brave of them at their age, although I doubt the camera crew would have let them get stuck in the mud or stuck under the bridge like a lot of 'em do ..lol.
Yes,it was dark early. That hour makes a lot of difference.
Night all.
Good day all.
Yes shandy I watch tin and Prunella on the canals. Norfolk is very pretty. I thoughts you but didn't see you! We have a permanent offer of a free barge holiday but it's in Manchester.

seems to have got colder in the evenings since the clocks went back.

Yes, I realise that makes no sense at all, but whoever said British weather should make sense.
Buddy bonfires, everyday every night. Stink the house out. Hate them.
18.25 and pitch dark!!
Haha ..I love my new name, shandy.....I'll have a half please:)
Very chilly again today ,but never fear it's warming up again .Not heatwave stylee but a bit milder.
Just watched the last George Gently ,what a tearjerker that was.I so wanted him to get the man who killed his wife, before he retired. They didn't have to kill him off like that...sob.
Hope you're all ok .Night all.
Wooooo....cackle

Thought I'd pop in with some goodies I threw together, it's my 14th AB anniversary. I've stirred a few cauldrons since then.

Yes, the temperature has plummeted, I think it'll be the wincy pj's and thermal hair net tonight, that should be enough to scare the trick or treaters off.

Oh no shandy, have they killed him off? I haven't watched it yet. It's ok, I'll let you off this time, you weren't to know [i]mumbles spell for people who post spoilers ;)[i] I thought they might, Martin Shaw kept stressing it would be the last ever episode.

Anyone got any spoilers for the euromillions result?
Oooh I'm sorry Robinia.I didn't mean to spoil it for you.
Please don't boil me up in your cauldron:)
14 years ...you deserve a medal.
Dull,chilly day again.I'm knitting hats .
HA shandy! You know what my typing is like! I have seen George Gently yet either, maybe tonight. It was really chilly today such a quick change, so out came the boots, jeans and fur collared Gillette, so happy.
No tourists, quiet and peaceful and it is possible to cross the road.
Dear cat vomited on carpet at some point in the night and a strange puddle appeared on dining room tiled floor but looked more like a vomit puddle. So there was I up at 7am mopping and scrubbing before Mr N got up as he can't abide it.
Mind you I'm surprised I'm not as high as a kite as back and front neighbours are puffing (or growing ) the old weed and place stinks to high (!) heaven. I may just sit crossed legged on patio, wear patchouli oil and say ummmm!
Oh bummer have forgotten to do euromillions!

I can't believe it's £12 a litre of Bailey's day at Tesco again, it seems to come around earlier every year.
Happy 14th Robi....soon be a grownup. I had my 15th in september but didn't notice. We are having a quiet evening here and hoping for no fireworks. I haven't watched George G either but suspected what would happen.
I have still got baileys and pumpkin spiced baileys left from last year. Getting to be a lightweight in my old age.
I want to change my avatar but gravatar won't accept my password and insist they have sent me an email but nothing! Why is it so difficult, I'm always having problems with them.

oh lor, OH is in hospital having a blood transfusion - had stomach pains for a week or more, started vomiting some blood this afternoon, and apparently it's all a stomach ulcer and haemoglobin levels are very low. So glad we've finally got a diagnosis for it all.
