A few recent problems with laptop

I was running IE9 on my laptop and when I tried to do a McAfee or Malwarebytes scan, the program kept closing and I got the message that Windows 7 had not closed down completely and asked me to restart.
This is a very recent problem, and I changed to Mozilla to see if that would help, but the problem is persisting.
Can anyone offer any advice?
Also, can I safely uninstal IE?
Many thanks.
I would like to say that I am not very savvy!!

When posting an error message, please post the exact message verbatim (not a paraphrase) and describe what you typed or clicked prior to the fault.

My initial reaction to this type of fault is to cold start the laptop and do absolutely nothing for at least two hours (and I mean absolutely nothing). If the computer has not crashed in the meantime, the shut it...

I have Windows Vista I started having lots of problems after I intalled IE9. Eventually I uninstalled it and now it is much better. I have Windows 8.

Thanks, methyl
I did a Windows update as you suggested. Everything seemed to be okay today.
