Why is iPad slowing down?

My iPad has served me well but this week is suddenly struggling to load some pages. Not all, just some. For instance, this site and FB are fine, but suddenly newspapers are either slow to load or jam halfway. Games I play online are doing the same If this happened on my laptop, I would try defrag and clean disk but don't know if there is an equivalent sort of action on an ipad. I've looked at the space available though and there is plenty left. Don't think it's the router either. Because my laptop is fine. Any ideas why this should suddenly start happening?

You could download Chrome from the app store to try a different browser, it's what I'm using and I find it quicker than Safari

How many apps have you got running, the iPad doesn't close them when you quit you have to do it yourself. Double press the home button and you'll get a list, tap any hold each icon until they wobble and then tap each red dot top left and they'll close, do it to all of them and then relaunch the ones you want as normal.
was going to say the same thing....it was only recently i had a d'oh moment and realised I had about 20 apps running.

Well I didn't know about the double clicking on home button, but I've just done it and nothing else is open

Omg....I stand corrected! Just did it again and saw them all at the bottom of the screen. There were about 60 open! Must have been sitting there for weeks some of them! Thank you very much. I will now see if things improve :-)

Aww.....sadly it didn't work. Even jammed halfway loading this page and I had to wait a minute to try again. Do I need to reboot or something and how do you do that on an iPad?
Turn it off and turn it on again, also try connecting it to itunes and running a back up and check for new software.

Ok thanks. Will give it a go.
Did you quit and restart Safari as it clears it's cache when you do so which might help. In addition to the normal power off and on you can do a 'reboot' version by holding the power and home buttons until the Apple logo pops up and it will power itself back on.

No joy I'm afraid. Switched it off and on, closed all programmes, reset it and checked and all it's software is up to date. That's me stuck now. Weird how some pages are fine and others like newspapers aren't. Although I'm guessing it's probably the loading of photos that's making it slower :-(

Done the full reboot thing. Haven't tried Chrome though. Have Opera mini and that's not quite as and as Safari. Didn't realise I could put Chrome on! Should I get rid of the others if I do? Would too many browsers slow it down?
If the others aren't running they don't make any difference, I've got Safari, Atomic Webrowser and Chrome and haven't noticed any clashes.

Right. Thanks. I will try Chrome.

Thank you so much! It's worked. Normal service has resumed!
