A week or two back I made a feeble attempt at satire in a post about the New 2nd Cousin rule in social distancing.

Just heard on the Today programme that grouse shooting parties have been made exempt from new social distancing regulations.

This is not satire, although it might be described as a joke.

Re-arrange this into a well-known saying.

One rich for law the, poor another for the.

I am surprised you can hear any whoosh noises, your head is so buried in the sand.

It is only one of several sports that have been given exemption.

I was just about to post something about this.
Unbelievable, isn’t it? Or maybe not totally.
Does duck shooting count? Or is that for the plebs? So no.
Are football and netball only for the rich? I don't think so.
IF it was only Grouse Shooting you would have a point but it isn't.
In a sport both sides should have a chance of prevailing, so I can't see how slaughtering thousands of innocent birds can be called a sport.
Why is netball ok, but not rounders?
Whether you agree with GS or not isn't the question sedge.

Sedge. Agreed. Let’s give the grouse shotguns and see the fun.
^ So what if it isn't the question, threads always deviate and sedge is right.
Odd that a so-called ‘elitist’ sport takes centre stage when the reality is quite different. Perhaps that's why you didn't post a link in your OP.

// The government has been accused of making coronavirus rule exemptions "for their mates" after it emerged that groups of more than six can go hunting. Labour says the exemption "shows where the government's priorities really lie" as groups of more than six can go hunting.

Other physical activities that can be done in groups of more than six include team sports such as rugby and football, as well as sailing, angling and polo.
More niche sports to make it onto the list include dodgeball, floorball, goalball and octopush.//

Still, don’t let the truth blunt your knife.
The exemption is for sports. My argument is that slaughtering birds is not a sport any more than bear baiting, cock fighting or fox hunting are sports.
That warrants a thread of its own, sedge. A different subject entirely.
If you want to protest at 30 blood thirsty upperclass twits annihilating the bird population be very careful - if more than 6 anti bloodsports protestors turn up, they could face a £3000 fine.

No further proof needed that Britain is more divided than ever under this Government.
Gromit, like others here you appear to have had a 'whoosh' moment.
I am surprised you can hear any whoosh noises, your head is so buried in the sand.
Yes, Gromit.
Just in the same way as any other protestors (BLM, anti-maskers, Extinction Rebellion, etc) should get prosecuted for excessive numbers in a gathering. Why should protestors protesting about a legitimate sport be allowed to contravene the rules ?
Gromit 09:50 Tue, and speaking of never allowing the truth to blunt your knife ….
It is a clever virus, it can tell the difference between a so called sport, and those protesting about it. It knows when 7 people are being unsafe and acting illegally, and The 30 people next o hem who are being safe and acting illegally.

If you take your shotguns to a Rounders match, are you allowed to play?

More upper nonsense from a Government that excels in being bonkers.
Is shooting a team game ?
Gromit //More upper nonsense//
Totally agree, fits your post admirably.
