Why do people get excited by someone running in a straight line for 10 seconds? No tactics, no mental anguish, no emotion, no gut busting challenge.

10,000 metres, now that deserves respect.

No ed, i just don't get it. i doesn't impress me at all.
What's your 100M time?
the 100m would be quicker and more fun if it was vertical
doctordb, so you could run that fast?
doctor, I may be wrong but I think these athletes are not actually trying to impress you, I may be wrong.

The Olympics dont interest me one bit but I can still appreciate the amazing feats performed by these athletes.

bibblebub, My best was 12.5, but i was more of a middle distance runner. 800 metres, that's a race.
You've obviously never done it then - and/or are a bit lacking on the imagination fund.

Though I do have some sympathy with your general view. I take a mild general interest in the results ut don't care for the process of getting there
doctordb.........I do share your opinion.

However let us not forget the weight training, diet, track preparation that goes into 10secs.

Compare that to the devotion, time taken in preparing for speed, stamina and tactics that go into middle distance and long distance running.
it's a sprint. The winner is the fastest man alive. If you think there's no mental anguish, try losing by a billionth of a second.
doctordb, doctor, doc, dr, d
others were asking about your time, not me
"The winner is the fastest man alive."

Not necessarily, he is just the fastest man to enter the race!
Question Author
good point bibblebub but perhaps subconciously you were slightly intrested. ;-)
put a cake on the finishing line- i'll beat them all :-)
i'd only be interested in your time if it was a vertical 100m that you'd done in 12.5s because that would suggest that you have hoverboots or superpowers

110 metre hurdles - sprinters with brains.
Ask the general public to name the fastest 10,000 metre runner

eh ? what ?

Now ask them to name the fastest man on earth..............
110 metre hurdles - sprinters with brains.

Now you are just being silly.
