Well there we have it...he has left Ireland after asking its people to forgive the abuses of power...sexual abuse, exploitation through manual work and for abuses perpetrated by men and women of the Church..... Time after time he asked for forgiveness and each time people listening applauded...... Were those applauding his words victims....the...

Only if he has sinned.
Question Author
Well, he heads an organisation that's been more than a little tainted recently.
But was it with his knowledge or approval?
Question Author
Probably not. But where does the buck stop?
With him, but it would be a bit harsh if it required him to wear sackcloth and ashes.
not as if abuse is exclusive to the Catholic church either ..is it ?
The fervour surrounding his visit is a complete anathema to me and makes me really glad I wasn’t brought up under such dogmatic religious brainwashing.

One can now be ashamed of the Catholic church, but not God .
Just as well the Catholic Church is worth billions with all those compensation payouts coming their way.

PS As an atheist it’s amusing to watch all the religious myth and rituals to appease a great mythical sky fairy.

Wouldn’t the world be a more peaceful better place without the violence and hate region brings.
If I was religious I would be ashamed of God letting all those children in Africa die from diseases and hunger. That’s just a start ....
Evil is this mythical creature.
If he did, Sandy he wouldn't mean it....it'd only be for show.....just like the apologies and regrets we're seeing almost daily.

It saddens me....and angers me too...that I will have family and friends going out into the streets to cheer and adore this man......the head of one of the most evil, corrupt and greedy organisations in this world. I'd like to see him met with silence and turned backs. Instead they are out in public crossing themselves and begging him to bless them.....a blessing from this man?

My family knows that I think that they and every other Catholic should, when the abuse and cover ups came to light, have walked away from this Church.....how folk can worship and pay to keep this evil going is beyond me.

Zacs...you were very fortunate......the harm this organisation does before you see the truth behind it never properly leaves you.....x

Your post tipifies why I hate all religions and my disgust at this faux adoration of this man in the 21st C, gness.
Good luck to him... he doesn't work for FIFA does he.

Why shouldn't folk who have religion welcome him, and I'm sure they will.
‘Why shouldn't folk who have religion welcome him’

For the reasons given in this thread and the huge amount of publicity surrounding the wrongdoings of catholic clergy in the name of religion. For millennia!
By welcoming and adoring him, Ark they are not properly condemning the behaviour of his workforce...x
I would not tell anyone what they should do. I'll do what I know is best for me .
