and he appeared in today's world, what would he make of today's Christians, their big elaborate churches and cathedrals, the pope and the Vatican and all their wealth etc...

I would imagine he would probably collapse in tears!

Goodlife, if you need spiritual fear to prevent you from compromising basic human principles of right and wrong, I feel very sorry for you.

He wouldn't recognise them - and they wouldn't recognise him.
He would know that his message didn't get through, and that Mankind continues to fail, big style.

He might want to set to with some of that there smoting - there's plenty of candidates!

Would it be that easy Naomi, I really dont think so! all the abuse that goes on in his name!

If he was such a gentle loving man as the Bible and Christians would like us believe, surely he would need to take action.
I'm thinking about that.
maybe he would be able to find the goodness in people:)
One thought. Jesus was only interested in the Jews - contrary to popular belief his message wasn't intended for all and sundry - so I imagine he might be a bit miffed to discover what's been constructed in his name. I wonder if he'd sue?
The next time he appears he will come arrayed in all his glory.
sandyRoe - "The next time he appears he will come arrayed in all his glory."

That rather presupposes that he has appeared at all.
He best choose His spot to reappear carefully. This time He could lose His head . . . in an orange jumpsuit no less.

I do believe he existed same as Mahommed and Buddha exited. As for all the other stuff son of God etc that is another thing altogether.
I was re-reading Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol' recently, and was much struck by the modern relevance of this passage :-

"There are some upon this earth of yours", returned the Spirit, "who lay claim to know us, and who do their deeds of passion, pride, ill-will, hatred, envy, bigotry, and selfishness in our name, who are as strange to us and all our kith and kin, as if they had never lived. Remember that, and charge their doings on themselves, not us."

Jesus would certainly be able to see which was which.

bert, //Jesus would certainly be able to see which was which. //

He certainly would. He'd know the Christians aren't Jews.
Jesus (pbuh) will have nothing to do with today's Christians as they are not following his teachings even according to the Bible available today.

They would welcome him in McDonalds making them Fillet-o-Fish and burger buns go further like he did back in the day with the fish and loaves.
