The staff seem to be in agreement but the camera image looks a bit suspicious to me so who knows? A hoax to drum up business … or something more?

Like with god... since the beginning of time, millions have desperately tried to prove one or the other exists. And nobody has even got anywhere close.
The question is more, why "would" you believe? What would you say a "ghost" actually is?

free or not doesn't matter if you're talking about readership; the Metro's more widely read than the Sun. The fact that it's free, and is routinely left on trains for others to read, suggests actual readership may be much higher than its distribution figures.

Could be applied word for word to any religion too. If something is unexplained, someone comes up with a theory, others follow. Even millions of claims aren't proof. Of course things happen that we don't understand or can't explain, but the leap to putting the answer down to an unproven, supernatural spirit is just as irrational. We can say we don't know, without claiming we know the answer. And for many, a ghost "is" the answer. So it is fair to ask where the proof is.

No. The religious in general claim spiritual connections rather than physical experiences. It’s a poor analogy.

Yes, it is entirely fair, but that said, for the reasons given, I don’t believe that everyone who claims ghostly experiences is either lying, deluded, or given to dramatics. So where does that leave us? Perhaps until some tangible evidence is forthcoming we should just concede that we don't know.

Well, we agree on some then, naomi. But I think the analogy works. Who decides what is "spiritual" or "physical"? The person themselves? How do we know they are different, let alone unrelated? There are too many presumptions for me there.
The two situations of seeing/ knowing/ believing something that an individual can't explain... and solving that by an unproven claim... doesn't seem any more reasonable in either case.
Until and unless some proof ever emerges, I will remain both atheist and... aghosteist...

What proof do you want pixie? To see a spirit yourself? Well I have seen one and she was as clear as day and someone I knew. I have also had other experiences proving, to me, that there is 'something out there', but because you have had no such wonderful experiences, it simply doesn't exist in your mind. I am not a liar, nor am I delusional, but people like you would suggest I am, because I have seen and witnessed what you have not?

I have certainly seen things I couldn't explain, and even years later- I have thought of everything, and still can't. That is not, of course "proof" of a ghost though. I can't work it out myself. I genuinely don't know.
