I have an old ring of my mothers, and on it is stamped - PLAT and Y181. Any ideas what this is please?

The 'PLAT' stamp means that the ring can be considered to be 100% platinum, making it worth quite a bit more than one made with platinum alloyed with other metals. Agree with Milvus about the Y181.

Likely to be platinum. Platinum jewellery has only needed a hallmark since 1975. The Y181 could be a pattern number
