Most of my responses in AB involve the Technology section, where 'feed-back' is very important to know if given advice was worthwhile or not. Consequently, as I have often been left 'high & dry' it is now my intention to refrain from giving answers to questioners in any section of AB who stipulate 'Thanks in Advance'.

right ho

Thanks for letting us know
I thought it meant transient ischaemic attack!
Not very often I answer in anything technical (it has happened) and it is nice to know a solution worked.

Generally though I don't give answers hoping for thanks.
'TIA' irritates me a bit too but, to be fair to those people who write it, they're often the ones who DO provide some feedback anyway!
It's not thanks I want, it is feedback in the tech section that is important as Hans says.

Did a suggestion work or not? Other people may have the same problem and it's good to know which suggestion worked and more importantly which suggestion blew the pc up.
thanks hans .

Back to being serious.

I am Not seeking applause for my answers. hc4361 has said very concisely what I and others are seeking.

@Baldric.......Thanks for having drawn attention to a previous thread of mine. In fact I had forgotten about it and have enjoyed reading it once again. You certainly do remember passed events and can quickly refer to them.

Cheers ...Hans.

i thought we came here to ask and to help. Kindness brings etc etc

It rang a bell with me as soon as I saw it, so just did a quick search!
Thanks in advance sounds measly
Can't see what all the fuss is about. I write an email asking for advice/ help/support and end it 'Thanks'. I thought it was being polite -obviously I'm being irritating by actually thanking someone (in advance) who will go to some effort to try and help.
Yes, but it would help others of us who are experiencing the same problems to know if it was the solution, hence, feedback please.
Psybo you are presuming everyone that ends with 'thanks in advance' never gets back with feedback.
If you think Technology has a dearth of proper 'thank you's', Hans, you should try Crosswords...blimey!

I have given Baldric 'Best Answer' because the link which he provided has drawn attention to this Not being the first time for my threatening to cease responding to TIA questioners.

Accordingly, I suppose that I will continue to answer TIAs and hope to see feed-back becoming common place, without any need for plaudits.

My thanks to all who posted in this thread.

Hans.

Thank you Hans, appreciated.
