Just bought full HD Toshiba Regza tv set and having problems with the signal. Basically it is not picking up any channels!
I dont know why this is as the aerial I have connected to the back of the tv is the same one that we use on the analogue tv which works just fine.
Do HD tvs require a different type of aerial?
I autotune and it picks up nothing then get this message on screen:

"No broadcast signals could be found. Please ensure your aerial is connected correctly"
What is going on'?

You probably need to replace your aerial system (which means both the aerial AND the associated cabling, which can be nearly as important). This aerial is highly recommended and suitable for most locations:

(2-part post):

Firstly, use the postcode checker to see whether you're meant to be able to get digital TV yet:
http://www.freeview.co.uk/availability
(Also ask your neighbours about their experiences of receiving digital TV).

Assuming that you can, you need to be aware of three things:
(i) when the changeover to digital was first planned it was thought that up to a third of all homes would need to improve their aerials to ensure good reception. The actual number of homes needing a new aerial has turned out to be far less but you still shouldn't be surprised if your old aerial isn't good enough ;
(ii) in areas where both analogue and digital signals are currently available the digital transmitters are currently operating at reduced power. This is necessary to avoid interference with the analogue signals. As soon as an analogue transmitter is switched off the digital transmitter for that area will start operating at full power ;
(iii) devices which receive radio signals (whether they be radios or any type of TV) have varying 'sensitivities' (i.e. their ability to 'pull in' weak signals'). Some makes or models of digital TV will have better sensitivities than others. Yours might have a fairly low sensitivity, requiring a better aerial.

Thank you so much Chris. I really appreciate all the help that you've given me since joining AB. You truly are the king of Answerbank. I wish I could shake your hand.
Using the postcode finder link you posted I was able to find out that I live in an area where all freeview channels should be picked up. I assume that the 'black spot' reference you made in your post applies only if I was to live in an area that does not pick up the digital channels.
Im slightly concerned that replacing the whole aerial system will be costly and that it wont fix the problem.
I will endeavour to speak to neighbours but it is not easy as I dont really know any of them. Moved not that long ago and hardly see them! However, they may be a valuable source of help so I must do this.
